Computer Van for Students in India
Posted by lyndall on 13th February 2008
I came across this video from you tube. It shows school children from Baramati (a small town in India) gaining access to computers when a computer lab (a truck with computers in it) comes each week. The children are trained by teachers who have a diploma or degree and the author remarks that even though the temperature is extremely hot, the children are still motivated and excited to use the computers. Children have to work in pairs as there aren't enough computers for everyone. And even though it seems that throughout the training session, students are just repeating what the teacher says - it's amazing that in a third world country and in a small town children can still connect with the rest of the world. It would even be possible for them to complete a project with a 'sister-school' perhaps on the other side of the world!!
