I was viewing Matthew’s blog page and came across his posting on risk-taking. The video which he has uploaded poses interesting questions relating to how us, as teachers must take risks in order to help children learn. Technology is a scary thing, and it’s scary as to just how quickly things change. When attending my first day of Prac this year – there was a discussion in a staff meeting relating to computer lessons and just how much the children enjoyed using the computers as well the innovative lessons that were being implemented. Some staff weren’t feeling too confident in using the computer programs and so there was training (informal as well as formal) put in place for teachers to feel more comfortable when teaching.

Being a teacher involves risk-taking that is ongoing. I don’t believe that you can stop learning and there will always be new ways of interacting and teaching children. Technology opens the doors to so many different opportunities for exciting lessons …. there should be no need for anyone to feel embarrassed when learning new software or learning about equipment – rather we should feel excited and proud of ourselves for learning something new!! I’m definitely happier now that I am aware of how easy it is to create blog pages, podcasts and imovies!
