Improving literacy through Podcasting

Posted by lyndall on 17th February 2008

Matthew posted information about a project he is involved in where Indigenous students will work in groups to create a Podcast. This project is being implemented in the hope of improving their literacy. This method of using Podcasting to improve their skills is a fabulous idea as the technology they are using is new and exciting – it’s not the usual reading of a book or completing a worksheet. These kids will work together in a group, have ownership of a task and be able to present their work to much wider audience (the UK!) all while they are improving on key skills that they will need in life. I wish Podcasting had been around when I was in school!

Twice a week I do remedial reading with 3 boys to improve their literacy skills. After completing this subject on Applications in Edudcational Computing, I’m quite excited about the possibility of introducing Podcasting to them – I’m sure it would definitely catch their interest!! And what a way to improve reading, expression etc.
