The movie below is very heart-warming. It’s so amazing that we have technology to allow children with disabilities to have a better quality of life. Melissa, who has cerebral palsy uses software to communicate with her family, friends and people at school. She will continue going to the school where she receives strong support from the teachers and therapy workers. Her family shows great determination and faith.
This is a response to Amy’s blog on Appleby Primary School in form of a Podcast. ( I might add I’ve done this Podcast from my laptop at home using the program Audacity, I’ve jumped over a hurdle – I was having issues converting this into an MP3 file … after some investigating and downloading other free software – Lame – I have converted it and now it’s up and running on my blog page!)
As teachers – we’re always trying to come up with creative and innovative lessons to motivate our students to learn – to allow students to reach their potential. Jenni has talked about her son (who is in year 4) completing his homework on the computer and then emailing it to the class teacher. Using technology has been a great motivator for him to complete his homework.
Yesterday I went to remedial reading. The three boys all have behavioural problems and one is in an IM class. I talked to them about Podcasting (they had not heard of it). I often have difficulty trying get them to read. I experimented and used my mobile phone to record them reading. At first they weren’t interested … but as soon as I played it back – all eyes were on me, with big smiles and enthusiasm. We’ve agreed to give it a go!! Not only does this mean they will be keen on reading for me, but we can now practise expression - which I have been wanting to do.
