Motivation

As teachers – we’re always trying to come up with creative and innovative lessons to motivate our students to learn – to allow students to reach their potential. Jenni has talked about her son (who is in year 4) completing his homework on the computer and then emailing it to the class teacher. Using technology has been a great motivator for him to complete his homework.
Yesterday I went to remedial reading. The three boys all have behavioural problems and one is in an IM class. I talked to them about Podcasting (they had not heard of it). I often have difficulty trying get them to read. I experimented and used my mobile phone to record them reading. At first they weren’t interested … but as soon as I played it back – all eyes were on me, with big smiles and enthusiasm. We’ve agreed to give it a go!! Not only does this mean they will be keen on reading for me, but we can now practise expression - which I have been wanting to do.
